Characteristics of a Model Health Initiatives Volunteer, Intern or Staff Member

  • Self-directed, with strong self-management and time-management skills
  • Teachable—open to learning and to receiving constructive critical feedback from supervisors, colleagues, and clients
  • Self-awareness—aware of moment-by-moment response to people and circumstances; in touch with personal strengths and limitations and how they apply to the situation at hand
  • Good will—wanting and working toward the best outcomes for the client and fellow staff
  • Flexibility—able to adapt to unexpected needs, or changes in schedule or circumstances; able to incorporate and effectively apply new information
  • Energy—able to function at full work capacity, and to complete daily and weekly work requirements
  • Enthusiasm—able to convey a sense of energy and encouragement to the client
  • Perspective—able to remain objective in difficult or emotionally-charged situations
  • Integrity— principled : does what is right, even at personal risk or cost. Honest : i.e., truthful , reliable (does what he says he is going to do; does a full-week of quality work each week; does not cut corners ), authentic, genuine (not merely performing; what you see is what you get)
  • Professional learning posture—active in pursuing formal and informal opportunities to learn and grow professionally
  • Empathy—able to understand another’s perspective and feelings, and to convey that understanding to the client, moment-by-moment; ability to see and understand another’s perspective

The Consultant is not a psychotherapist or social worker, and does not engage in practices that belong to the field of medicine
  • Models the health principles regarding spiritual life, relationships, nutrition, exercise, and life-management skills that we are encouraging our members to follow

 

Specialist Volunteers

The Health Initiatives Department of Christian Care Ministry is looking for qualified volunteers who have a passion for helping others in the areas of health and wellness. The qualified volunteer must be willing to spend ten hours/week working with members via telephone. The two areas where volunteers are needed are:

Health Initiatives Services Guide : To call new Medi-Share members to introduce them to the Health Initiatives Department services, including the web sites.

We are looking for individuals who:

  • are members of Medi-Share
  • have a background in a health area, such as: dietician, personal trainer, exercise physiologist, RN, MD, D.O., chiropractor, physician’s assistant, certified exercise specialist, physical education/health teacher
  • live a lifestyle that represents the message the Health Initiative Department conveys to our members in the areas of spiritual life, nutrition and exercise
  • have access to a computer and possess basic computer skills
  • are willing to maintain current, accurate records of calls
  • will commit to completing initial and ongoing training to learn and become knowledgeable about the programs and resources the HI Department has available to our members
  • are articulate on the phone
  • can be flexible in working with people

Health Education Intern : Christian Care Ministry is seeking a qualified intern at their site in Melbourne , Florida . This person will be working toward a degree in the health field. The qualified intern will be able to work as a team member in the Health Initiatives Department and will participate in the following activities:

  • plan and coordinate educational programs for assigned members for healthy choices
  • assess food consumption and nutrient value
  • administer questionnaires to identify health-risk
  • determine readiness to change
  • indicate likelihood of successful program adherence
  • maintain an assigned caseload
  • responds to member requests
  • keep detailed record of member interaction
  • maintain regular communication Medical professionals to ensure that information conveyed is consistent with current health-related research
  • make referrals to the appropriate resource person--physician, Health Education Consultant, RN Health Educator--when a need or question lies outside the scope of intern’s role, experience, training and credentials

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Education Leader Intern Christian Care Ministry is offering an internship in the area of innovative adult education within the context of a retirement community in Florida . The ideal candidate will be completing a degree in education (or comparable major) and is someone with an interest and experience in serving the senior adult population. It is essential that the qualified intern will be able to work in a team environment to best achieve the goal of creating a wellness community. This position will offer exposure to the following components of the community life staff position:

  • work under the direct supervision of the Education Director, in collaboration with the Health/Fitness Director in addressing the wellness needs of the community members
  • maintain records of attendance and monitor needs and feedback of residents
  • learn and assist in the implementation of age the multiple-intelligence (brain exercise) dimension of the 4th Point - Performance Training - of the 6-Point Initiative
  • learn and assist in the implementation of the “Discovery” initiative, designed to help residents identify and apply their passions, interests, aptitudes and abilities in the service of the extended community
  • learn and assist in the implementation of the “Expression” initiative, a program for launching and coordinating recreative and community service efforts of community members
  • assist in scheduling use of the Education Center and the Discovery Center  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fitness Leader Intern Christian Care Ministry is offering an internship for the position of Fitness Leader within the context of a retirement community in Florida. The ideal candidate will be completing a degree in a fitness-related field and is someone with an interest and experience in serving the geriatric population. It is essential that the qualified intern be able to work in a team environment to best achieve the goal of creating a wellness community. This position will offer exposure to the following components of the fitness leader staff position:

 

  • work under the direct supervision of the Health/Fitness Director, in collaboration with the Community Life Director and the Food Manager in addressing the wellness needs of the community members
  • schedule, instruct or coach groups or individuals in various exercise activities
  • assist clients in assessing their level of physical fitness and help them set and reach fitness goals
  • assist clients in assessing their level of functioning and help them set and reach goals
  • demonstrate various exercise activities and help clients improve their technique
  • track client progress with regard to both process and outcome goals
  • create and maintain exercise programs that meet the needs of the residents
  • create incentives and recognition programs
  • provide fitness testing/health screenings
  • prepare and deliver newsletter articles, wellness presentations, educational, and motivational programs
  • maintain records of attendance and monitor needs and feedback of residents
