Plants That Heal
by Andrews University
For centuries native Americans have used plants and plant extracts for medicine. Recently, there has been a resurgence of interest in Western society in the use of botanical therapies for the relief of various illnesses such as:
- Fresh aloe gel to relieve burns and sunburns Garlic to improve blood lipids and reduce the risk of blood clots St John's Wort to treat mild and moderate forms of depression Cranberry juice to fight urinary tract infections Echinacea to stimulate the immune system and combat colds and flu symptoms Feverfew to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines Valerian as a mild sedative for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia
- Eucalyptus oil as a decongestant and provide relief for coughs
If we would appreciate the beneficial value of some common herbs and learn how to properly utilize them we could prevent much pain and suffering, and enjoy better health.
